The reason we set up this blog, and probably the reason you're looking at is it... ruddy Wanderlust. It gets to us all.
wanderlust
ˈwɒndəlʌst/
noun
a strong desire to travel.
"a man consumed by wanderlust"
Of course, the most preferred cure for Wanderlust is to, duh, travel. But when work has become all consuming, the pennies are being stretched, and everyone feels out of sync - the world can feel a million miles away.
HOWEVER! There are some ways to cure Wanderlust without these things getting in the way. These are only quick fixes, but trust us, they do work temporarily:
Go to your local train, tube station, or pick a point on a map to drive to. Choose somewhere you've never been to and go. You don't have to go far, but you might find a lovely local park, a fun market or roof terrace you never knew existed. Not only will it make you appreciate your home region a hella lot more, but the spontaneity in itself is enough to stave off boredom.
Try a Meetup! Part of the reason we love to travel is meeting new people. Meetup's are a great way to meet people who have similar interests as you as well as a way of doing something totally new. Exciting eh?
Do something active. Sure you could just go for a run, but where's the adventure in that? Why not try something totally new? Join a climbing club, head to a Bounce park or hire yourself a canoe for the day. You'll get those endorphins pumping through your veins whilst having a mini adventure.
Plan a camping trip. You could just go for a night or two, get out in the wild, have a BBQ and roast some marshmallows on the fire.
Try a new cuisine. You don't need to travel to Vietnam to try their food when you could just head out to Pho or Banh Mi Bay!?
Visit a tourist spot in your town. Whether it's the local ghost tour run by your old history teacher, or the V&A museum, it's easy to save the stuff closest to us for another day, but what if that day never comes? You never know, you might really enjoy it and learn something cool about your home at the same time.
Are you an early bird or a night crawler? Get a picnic together and research the best place to watch the sunset or sunrise.
Learn something new. Learn the language of where is top on your travel list. Then when you've got the funds together, you'll be able to appreciate the local culture even more. Plus it's more incentive to actually finally visit that place you've been dreaming about!
Go on a hike. Seeing your home country through a new viewpoint is super rewarding.
